While attending the University of Ulster you will be taking microbiology and nutrition. Microbiology is the study of what cannot be seen by the naked eye, for example: bacteria, viruses, protists, and fungi. Professor James Dooley teaches microbiology at the University of Ulster. He makes his lesson plans very interactive and the lecture is very laid back and fun. Accompanied with the lecture, is a lab where you get to grow microbes and determine what type of microbe you're examining. On a typical week you will attend microbiology on three different days. All three of these days will include the lecture and the lab. The class starts at ten, but the length depends on the lesson plan for the day. You do get a lunch break. In microbiology you will take two tests. One is three weeks in and one is a final. You will also need to write a report along with the final.
You will go to nutrition once a week and you will see multiple professors. Professor Helen McCarthy is in charge of all of it and you will see her the most. She is an upbeat, fun-loving, and laid back person. Three weeks into the class there will be a test, four weeks into the class there will be a report, the fifth week there will be a presentation, and the sixth week there is a final. It is important to plan ahead for these, otherwise you will become very overwhelmed.
Although both these classes are difficult our professors made them both educational and entertaining.
